Stuttgart Airport History
Stuttgart Airport was opened in 1936. Used by the German Air Force in the Second World War, Stuttgart was used by Mercedes as a testing side for aircraft engines.
Overtaken by the US Army in 1945 Stuttgart Airport still hosts a US Air Force base in the south of the field.
Since the 1990’s Stuttgart Airport was constantly modernized including a relocation and extension of the runway, a new passenger terminal and a brand new general aviation terminal which was awarded with an architecture prize in 2001.
